We will discuss the basics of charitable trusts. We will first discuss what a charitable trust is and how it is taxed for federal income tax purposes. We will then discuss which types of charitable trusts are subject to excise taxes. We will then discuss how trustees can eliminate or reduce the amount of income taxes and excise taxes that charitable trusts pay
